Introducing Iwan Tukalo

Thumbing a lift to the next stop!

Gies a lift!

Scotland kicked off its 1991 Rugby World Cup campaign with a warmup match against Romania in Bucharest (Doddie’s second cap). At this point in his career, his star was in ascendancy and mine was, regrettably, on the wane! Nevertheless, I was privileged to call him a teammate for a further 12 Internationals.

When Doddie’s Motor Neuron Disease diagnosis was announced, it came as a shock to us all in the Rugby Community and I recall my first question, “What’s MND”?

Doddie in his own inimitable way changed that narrative. His subsequent fight against MND and his fight to find a cure for the illness raised public awareness. He was inspirational and continues to inspire so many people around the country to raise a lot of money to find a cure.

This latest adventure will see us cover 700+ miles in 5 days. Having participated in four previous Doddie Cycling challenges, our suffering will be temporary but those diagnosed with terrible disease are not so fortunate……………
