Introducing Support Team Member - Phil Calvert
Who are you ( name, age, where you come from)
Phil Calvert. 53. From Belfast living in Edinburgh.
What is your background?
Physical activity educator specialising in diabetes. I met Gayle and the team through the David Lloyd Club at Shawfair, and I’m delighted to be part of the backup Support Crew.
Why did you want to get involved in this challenge?
Back in 2018, I ran 52 marathons in 52 weeks for the big fella. This event (All Roads Lead to Rome) is the kind of crazy stuff that would put a smile on his face, so I am delighted to get involved.
How long have you been cycling?
Although I’m not Cycling in this event, I have competed in full Ironman triathlons and completed the Lands End to John O’Groats cycle.
What do you think will be the most challenging aspect of the trip?
Taking it all in! I’m driving slowly all the way to Rome.
How important is it that we keep Doddie's memory alive?
Massive! It’s important to keep the big fellas legacy alive.
How important is it that we continue to raise funds for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation?
Hopefully, we can raise millions to find a cure and support those families living with loved ones who are suffering from this devastating illness.
What has been the most inspirational aspect of this challenge so far for you?
Just being asked to take part!
What, ultimately, do you want to come out of this?
Money, money, money and great memories.
