Introducing Dave Edwards - Cyclist

Who are you (name, age, where you come from)

Dave Edwards 65 years young ish, from Wrexham / Ruthin North Wales

What is your background?

I retired 8 years ago to live full time on the Greek island of Lefkada, prior to which I spent 10 years as working General Manager of a holding company for a very successful local Businessman, which involved managing projects all over the world. Before that, I spent 10 years running my own engineering company

Why did you want to get involved in this challenge?

I was delighted to be invited to join the Welsh team by Captain Rob who I played rugby with for many years at Ruthin rugby club having cycled a small leg of the Cardiff to Edinburgh ride last year, for such a tremendous cause.

How long have you been cycling?

I started cycling for my 60th birthday when I cycled from London to Lefkada with some old rugby friends, one of whom was Mel Royles who is joining us this time as a support driver.

What do you think will be the most challenging aspect of the trip?

The challenge will be continued cycling performance at high speed for 8 days

How important is it that we keep Doddie's memory alive?

I think keeping Doddie's memory alive will not be difficult, continuing to raise substantial funds for the research until a cure is found will be the real challenge.

How important is it that we continue to raise funds for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation?

When you meet the really brave people who have MND you realise how lucky you are to be able to take on challenges like this.

What, ultimately, do you want to come out of this?

To raise the maximum amount of funds we can, and to join a bunch of people who are committed to physical challenges but also enjoy the banter along the way!
